Urgent : Help us with our Medical Fund

Kate and Doug, an elderly New Zealand couple who run CDWC and who have dedicated the past 15 years of their lives to caring for Nepali street dogs, are urgently seeking to raise $20,000 AUD for a new Medical Contingency Fund, which will be used for the sterilization and medical treatment of rescued dogs over the next two years. This new DonorBox Campaign will help dogs needing urgent and ongoing medical treatment.

Some examples of what the money will go towards include the following:

Treatment of Parvo virus, mange, Ecanis, broken bones, blood parasites, and TVT (transmissible venereal tumors)

Testing for Parvo and distemper. Bloodwork to determine health issues and parasites. As well as stool and urine tests.

Medicines including vaccines, antibiotics, chemotherapy, topical treatments, dewormers, and flea and tick prevention for the dogs in the centre.

Surgeries such as sterilization, broken bones, cancer/tumors, and metal plates needed for severe breaks.

Donations of any size are greatly appreciated and will go towards helping the work we do.

Welcome to Community Dog Welfare Kopan, a non-profit organization dedicated to developing community awareness and responsibility for dog welfare near Kopan Monastery on the outskirts of Kathmandu, Nepal.

Community Dog Welfare evolved from caring for dogs picked up on the street and brought home for veterinary treatment and recovery.  With local and international support we have created an expanding network for dog welfare through practical assistance, low cost treatment, dog health programmes and creating awareness, all of which have received a positive response in the local community.  Care is provided for sick, injured, aged and abandoned dogs in our rescue centre.

Because EVERY DOG’S LIFE MATTERS, the overall aim is to give EVERY DOG A CHANCE FOR A BETTER LIFE.  We care for vulnerable dogs, and promote dog welfare by encouraging local people to care for their dogs, in order to develop a healthier, safer community environment.  Community Dog Welfare is systematically extending its coverage through annual programmes for dog health, neutering and rabies control.

International volunteers are welcome; working at our centre gives them the opportunity to make a difference in the community, both for the welfare of people and dogs.  We are affiliated with the Himalayan Animal Treatment Centre (HAT-UK) and Himalayan Animal Rescue Trust (HART).

We are grateful to the many individuals who have contributed to the setting up and running of Community Dog Welfare Kopan, especially those who sponsor the routine care of many of the dogs in our centre and to those kind people who have given some of our dogs a forever home.

Contact Us

We focus our activities in the upper Kopan area and are usually unable to directly help dogs outside of this area. However, we can give advice and indicate which other dog rescue centre may be able to help – but the best thing is to take action yourself by taking the dog needing care to the nearest vet clinic! Most shelters are overwhelmed with dogs that need homes, and may have difficulty in helping.
