Urgent : Help Us Build A New Dog Shelter
To our distress, the area our shelter has been located for the last 12 years has become increasing over-populated and urbanised. The surrounding fields we used to love watching our recovered dogs play in are now full of concrete houses and private farm land. This has lead to growing conflicts with the local community – not everyone is a dog lover and they have been making this very clear. It has reached a level where we have no other choice but to move the shelter and relocate, to somewhere our dogs will be happy and undisturbed. Here we hope to continue our missions.
We are starting this fundraiser due to our urgent need of funding to build a fence around the land we have rented – and move as soon as possible. The fence will be two layers of concrete blocks, under corrugated iron or mesh netting, supported by steel poles. We will use second hand material wherever possible for environmental impact and to reduce costs.
Donations of any size are greatly appreciated and will go towards helping the work we do.
Welcome to Community Dog Welfare Kopan, a non-profit organization dedicated to developing community awareness and responsibility for dog welfare near Kopan Monastery on the outskirts of Kathmandu, Nepal.
Community Dog Welfare evolved from caring for dogs picked up on the street and brought home for veterinary treatment and recovery. With local and international support we have created an expanding network for dog welfare through practical assistance, low cost treatment, dog health programmes and creating awareness, all of which have received a positive response in the local community. Care is provided for sick, injured, aged and abandoned dogs in our rescue centre.
Because EVERY DOG’S LIFE MATTERS, the overall aim is to give EVERY DOG A CHANCE FOR A BETTER LIFE. We care for vulnerable dogs, and promote dog welfare by encouraging local people to care for their dogs, in order to develop a healthier, safer community environment. Community Dog Welfare is systematically extending its coverage through annual programmes for dog health, neutering and rabies control.
International volunteers are welcome; working at our centre gives them the opportunity to make a difference in the community, both for the welfare of people and dogs. We are affiliated with the Himalayan Animal Treatment Centre (HAT-UK) and Himalayan Animal Rescue Trust (HART).
We are grateful to the many individuals who have contributed to the setting up and running of Community Dog Welfare Kopan, especially those who sponsor the routine care of many of the dogs in our centre and to those kind people who have given some of our dogs a forever home.
